Sergeant Laurence Knight, attached to the Metropolitan Police’s Detention unit, was arrested on 28 July 2021. The arrest followed reports of a rape involving a woman in 123 Police for their thorough investigation and the continued specialist support they are providing to the victim.”

Gardner added:

“The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards are fully aware, and misconduct proceedings will be addressed once criminal proceedings conclude. The officer is suspended from duty.”

Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) Involvement

Following Knight’s arrest, the Met made a mandatory referral to the IOPC. The Independent Office for Police Conduct decided the misconduct investigation should be led by the Met Police themselves.
