Fake Gardener Forces Way Into Elderly Woman’s Home

Police were called to a property near Loose Road, Maidstone, on Monday, January 23, after a man knocked on the door of a disabled elderly woman. The suspect offered to do gardening work but then broke into her home and made off with £150 from her handbag.

Police Nab Ambrose Treeby for Burglary and Fraud

Two days later, on Wednesday, January 25, 39-year-old Ambrose Treeby from Queen Street, Paddock Wood, was arrested and charged with burglary. He also faces additional charges linked to a separate incident on August 15, 2022, where a cheque was stolen from a woman in her 90s in Borough Green.

£20,000 Fraud Tied to Stolen Cheque

Authorities allege the stolen cheque was used to swindle the pensioner out of £20,000 in cash. Treeby was remanded in custody and is due in Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, January 26.
