Police Dog Tracks Down Bleeding Suspect in Field
Officers rushed to Pelham Rise at 8.40pm on October 11 after spotting a man bleeding. Although they weren’t sure which way the suspect had fled, a flicker of light in a nearby field gave them a clue.
PD Hox the German Shepherd Sniffs Out Suspect
Enter PD Hox, a sharp two-year-old German Shepherd handled by PC Gareth Evers. PC Evers explained, “I was briefed on the scene and knew a light, likely a cigarette, was seen about 200 metres into the field. We had no exact route but that was our lead.”
“Keeping Hox on a lead, we moved slowly through the ploughed field. Hox picked up the scent and led me to a clearing, over a barbed wire fence, and into the next field. Even in pitch black, Hox indicated the suspect’s spot.”
Suspect Nabbed in High Grass
Police found 26-year-old James Graves, from Central Avenue, Telscombe Cliffs, hiding in tall grass. He was charged with two counts of criminal damage, theft in a dwelling, and assault by beating.
Graves appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on October 13 and was remanded on conditional bail. He must return to court on December 7.
