Michael Scott Jailed for Sick Abuse After Grooming Underage Girl on Social Media
Disgusting Abuse Uncovered
Michael Scott, 48, has been slammed with a six-year prison sentence for abusing a young girl he groomed online. Prosecutors laid bare his vile actions in court, with his own family forced to hear the horrific details.
Scott, who has no fixed address, started his twisted abuse after striking up contact with the victim on social media. A friend of the victim discovered explicit photos being exchanged between them, triggering the investigation.
Gifts and Grooming Tactics
At Derby Crown Court, prosecutor Henry James revealed how Scott showered the girl with gifts — including a laptop and sex toys — to gain control over her. “She was perplexed but knew it was wrong,” said Mr James.
The victim reported a “catalogue of foul and depraved” acts to police. Court evidence included images and videos of the abuse found on Scott’s phone, alongside internet searches trying to work out if iMessages could be used against him.
Judge Delivers Harsh Sentence
Judge Shaun Smith QC described Scott’s actions as “degrading and disgusting,” highlighting how the abuser “systematically used and abused her over two years.” The judge noted some offences involving recorded abuse aggravated the case, even though no charges were filed for these images.
“You had a good life that you have now lost, a livelihood and a home,” Judge Smith said.
Scott pleaded guilty to two counts of having sex with an underage girl on March 23. The court accepted not guilty pleas on three counts of possessing indecent images but still used them to aggravate sentencing.
Conditions of Release and Lifetime Bans
Scott will serve half his sentence behind bars before moving to supervised release. He must sign the sex offender register for life and is banned from all contact with females under 18 — especially his victim, directly or indirectly.
He is also subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, ensuring strict oversight as he serves the remainder of his punishment.
