Met Police Officer Sacked for Punching Woman During Arrest
PC Shanoor Ali, from the Met’s South West Basic Command Unit, has been found guilty of misconduct after punching a woman during an incident in Tooting.
Incident in Tooting
The alleged assault took place on 27 June 2021 when PC Ali, alongside other uniformed officers, attended an address in Tooting. A female member of the public was present and was allegedly punched by PC Ali before being arrested. The case against the woman was later dropped.
Misconduct Panel’s Verdict
Following a hearing from 22 to 24 February, the misconduct panel upheld the allegation of misconduct against PC Ali for his excessive use of force.
Commander Condemns Officer’s Actions
Detective Chief Superintendent Clair Kelland, South West BCU commander, said: “This matter will clearly be of great concern to our community, and rightly so. I can only imagine the trauma, and physical impact on the woman concerned, at the hands of a police officer. I am shocked by what happened. “Police officers do need to use force in some instances, but it is clear that PC Ali went way beyond what was proportionate in this incident. “It is right that he has been held to account for his actions and will now no longer be a police officer.”
Former PC Ali has been added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing. This means he cannot be employed by any police force, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services.
