Thief Nabbed for £300 One Stop Looting Spree
Ashley Walmsley, 28, from Kirk View, Hoyland, has been caught stealing over £300 worth of goods from a local One Stop store. His crime spree stretched over 10 days, from November 26 to December 6.
Random Plunder Includes Wine, Meat – and 100 Chocolate Bars!
Walmsley’s ill-gotten haul was a cheeky mix: Nescafe coffee sachets, packets of meat, bottles of wine, tubs of sweets, and on one wild day, he swiped 100 chocolate bars worth £150.
Justice Served: 12 Weeks Behind Bars
Police arrested Walmsley and charged him with six thefts. At Barnsley Magistrates’ Court last Thursday (December 7), he pleaded guilty to all counts. The judge sentenced him to 12 weeks in prison – no messing about.
“Walmsley has shown a flagrant disregard for the law and committed these crimes while on bail,” said Police Constable Megan Warren of Barnsley South Neighbourhood Policing Team. “The offences were so serious the judge had no choice but to lock him up. We hope this time behind bars helps him reflect on his actions.”
Police Warn: Shoplifting Not a Victimless Crime This Festive Season
“Shop workers and retailers shouldn’t have to deal with thieves, especially during the busy festive period,” added PC Warren. Police vow to work with local shops to boost crime prevention and send a clear message: shoplifting won’t be tolerated in South Yorkshire.
