Burglary Spree Ends Behind Bars for Michael Maloney
Homes Raided Across East Sussex
Between 11 April and 14 May 2022, residents in Tunbridge Wells and surrounding towns returned to find their homes ransacked and valuables stolen. Michael Maloney struck multiple addresses along Frant Road, Broadwater Down, and even ventured to Station Hill, Wadhurst.
Forcing Entry and Leaving Clues
Maloney forced doors and windows open to break in. He made off with jewellery, watches, cash, and other prized possessions. At one Wadhurst home on 16 April, he left blood behind, which police later matched to his DNA.
Police Hunt and Arrest
Kent Police detectives pieced together the evidence, tracking Maloney’s movements by linking him to crime scenes via his mobile phone and vehicle records. He was first arrested on 18 May in connection with the Wadhurst burglary, then on 26 May for the Tunbridge Wells break-ins.
Sentenced to Six Years—and Banned from Town
The 42-year-old from Minster-on-Sea pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to conspiracy to commit burglary. Last Friday, he was locked up for six years. A criminal behaviour order now bars him from entering Tunbridge Wells for the next decade after release.
Detective Constable Celia King said: “This prolific criminal targeted a number of properties over a short period of time and stole valuable items, some of which were of sentimental value and can never be replaced.
“Breaking into someone’s home is a despicable thing to do and can leave victims feeling violated and unsafe. Maloney gave no thought to his victims and it is entirely appropriate that he is now serving a prison sentence.”
