Reckless Driver Jailed After Dangerous BMW Chase
Charlie Gunning, 27, from Royal Wootton Bassett, was slapped with a four-month jail sentence and a five-year driving ban after pleading guilty to driving while disqualified and uninsured. The drama unfolded at Swindon Magistrate’s Court on November 27.
Dodgy BMW Sparks Police Pursuit
On the early morning of September 3, police spotted Gunning behind the wheel of a BMW on London Road. The car had an expired MOT and insurance that only covered female drivers — a glaring red flag.
When officers stopped the vehicle, Gunning bolted, managing to give law enforcers the slip.
Public Tip-Off Leads to Arrest
Gunning kept low until November 26, when a member of the public spotted him following a police wanted appeal. Officers swooped in and finally hauled him in.
Police Praise Community Support
PC Luke Hobbs said: “Driving whilst disqualified not only shows a complete disregard for the law and judicial system but is incredibly dangerous for fellow road users. This isn’t the first time Gunning has pulled this – so I’m pleased he’s been jailed to reflect the seriousness of his actions.”
“Big thanks to the member of the public who helped us catch him after the wanted appeal. Public support is key to keeping our roads safe and avoiding needless deaths.”
Police vow to crack down hard on similar offences to protect everyone on the roads.
