Shoplifter Jailed for Ignoring Court Ban in Whitstable
A serial shoplifter who brazenly flouted a court order banning him from entering local stores has been locked up. Adrian Marsh, 41, was slapped with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) by Kent Police in April, banning him from four Whitstable supermarkets. But he ignored the warning and stole five times more in May.
Repeated Thefts Rack Up Over £550 in Stolen Goods
- May 15: Stole meat from a Tankerton Road supermarket
- May 24: Pinched alcohol, meat, and fish from a shop on Reeves Way
- May 31: Made off with more meat and fish on Prospect Way
The total value of Marsh’s pilfered haul topped £550. His spree spurred an investigation by Canterbury’s Victim Based Crime Team, who gathered the evidence linking him to all five thefts.
21 Months Behind Bars and More Store Bans on the Way
On June 10, Folkestone Magistrates’ Court sentenced Marsh to 21 months in prison. They also extended his bans from several stores upon release.
“Kent Police is committed to protecting local businesses from the attentions of repeat offenders like Marsh,” said Sergeant Rachel Mulder from Canterbury’s Victim Based Crime Team.
“CBOs are designed to stop this behaviour, but Marsh ignored the chance to mend his ways. The court has sent a clear message: persist with shoplifting and you’ll end up behind bars.”
