Knife-Wielding Robber Caught After Terrifying Broadway Rampage

Anthony Clarke, 39, sparked panic on Broadway, Accrington, in the early hours of February 8. At 6.10am, he targeted his first victim, demanding money at knifepoint. Luckily, the man escaped unharmed.

Second Victim Pushed to the Floor – Wrist Broken

Just 10 minutes later, Clarke struck again. He confronted a woman walking down Broadway, shouting for cash. When she said she had none, Clarke pulled out a knife, grabbed her coat, and threatened to stab her.

He then shoved her to the ground, causing a broken wrist. Clarke ran off with her mobile phone.

Fast Police Response Nets Swift Arrest

Police arrived promptly and arrested Clarke at 6.35am. After consulting the Crown Prosecution Service, he was charged with robbery, attempted robbery, and possession of a bladed article in public.

Clarke, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty and was locked up for five years and four months at Preston Crown Court last week.

Police Praise Public and Stress Quick Reporting

DC Lindsay Bull, EAST CID: “I welcome the custodial sentence handed down to Clarke. He terrified both of his victims while they simply walked down the high street.”

“I would like to thank passers-by who helped the victims and assisted police. Their quick actions led to Clarke’s arrest within 25 minutes. This case shows how vital it is to report serious crimes immediately to prevent further harm.”
