Predator Avoids Jail After Sick Messages to Young Victim

Scott Loakes, 27, admitted four child sex offences but denied any sexual intent behind the vile messages. In a shock twist, he claimed he was trying to boost his victim’s self-esteem when questioned by a probation officer. On Thursday, March 18, Northampton Crown Court spared him prison time.

Disturbing Messages Left Victim Terrified

Loakes, from Hove Road, committed the offences last year, including an occasion where he inappropriately touched the young girl. Prosecutor Matthew Rowcliffe revealed the impact: “It made her feel scared and a bit sick.”

Loakes, who spent much of his time online, sent creepy messages telling the victim she was beautiful, asked for pictures, and encouraged her to perform a sex act. When arrested, he admitted sending the messages but claimed they weren’t for sexual gratification.

“He struggles to give any convincing answer when the sexual messages are put to him,” said Rowcliffe. The victim, in a statement, described feeling scared and unable to sleep, suffering from nightmares nearly every night.

Community Order, Not Prison, for Loakes

Loakes pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and sexual communication with a child. His lawyer, Liam Muir, argued for a suspended sentence.

Her Honour Judge Rebecca Crane handed down a three-year community order instead of jail. Loakes must attend sex offender programmes and rehabilitation activities.

Strict Restrictions Imposed on Loakes

  • Sex offender registration for five years
  • Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years limiting contact with victim
  • Banned from working with vulnerable children and adults

Loakes narrowly escaped prison but remains under tight control to protect the public and the young victim.
