Officer Sacked After Drunken Nightclub Assault
PC Howell Fired Over Beer Bottle Attack
PC Howell, badge number 8877, was booted out of the force with immediate effect on Monday 13 March. The Chief Constable took swift action after hearing about his serious misconduct off duty.
Drunk and Dangerous in Birmingham
On 10 December 2022, PC Howell was off duty at Snobs nightclub in Birmingham. Intoxicated and out of control, he attacked a member of the public by hurling a beer bottle, leaving the victim with a nasty cut to the forehead.
Cover-Up Attempt Backfires
West Midlands Police launched a criminal probe, which ended in Community Resolution. But Howell never disclosed the incident or its consequences to British Transport Police (BTP), breaking trust and protocol.
Chief Constable Issues Tough Sentence
Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi slammed the officer: “This was a deliberate and entirely unprovoked act of violence – shocking from any member of the public, let alone a serving police officer.
“When an officer breaks the law it seriously undermines public confidence in policing. For that reason, I dismissed him with immediate effect. There is simply no place in BTP for people who behave like this.”
The officer admitted to gross misconduct, sealing his fate and sending a clear message that violent behaviour won’t be tolerated in the ranks.
