Predatory Paedophile Caught: Man Guilty of Historic Sex Crimes in Sussex
A 65-year-old man has been found guilty of historic sexual offences against a young girl in Sussex. Paul Latham was convicted of two counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15 after a trial at Hove Crown Court.
Jury Rejects Some Charges, But Justice Served
Latham denied all charges, including three counts of sexual activity with a minor and a rape allegation involving an adult. On November 18, the jury cleared him of rape but found him guilty of two counts involving the underage girl. Another count remains on file. Sentencing is set for January 6, 2023.
Offences Date Back to 2005
The court heard that the abuse took place at homes in Hove and Woodingdean when Latham was 47. Despite knowing the girl was underage, he preyed on her.
Detective Praises Victim’s Courage
“Latham is a predatory sex offender who preyed on a young teenage girl and has now faced justice,” said Detective Constable Lisa Hampson.
“The victim showed extraordinary bravery and tenacity during a very difficult period. We worked tirelessly to secure this conviction. Victims of sexual offences will always be supported, and we take their reports seriously.”
“We hope this outcome encourages other victims to come forward. No matter how long ago the offence, we will seek justice.”
