Cop Found Guilty of Shocking Abuse Charges

PC Isaque Rodrigues-Leite, a member of the Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC), has been found guilty of multiple serious offences. The officer was convicted on four counts of false imprisonment, two counts of assault by beating, one count of coercive and controlling behaviour, and one count of criminal damage.

He was cleared of two other false imprisonment charges and one count of making threats to kill. Rodrigues-Leite faces sentencing on 16 January 2024.

Abuse Spanned Two Years

The court heard that Rodrigues-Leite abused a woman he knew over a two-year period during 2019 and 2020. He repeatedly used threats and intimidation against her. The victim bravely reported him to the police in September 2020, leading to his arrest and subsequent suspension.

Police Boss Condemns Behaviour

Detective Superintendent Christina Jessah from RTPC said: “I know the nature of this case will be alarming to Londoners. I fully acknowledge that. We are committed to improving and only employing staff who uphold the standards our communities expect. “PC Rodrigues-Leite’s behaviour is reprehensible and it is right he has been held accountable in court. Public trust is vital to us, and we know it has been severely damaged recently. Across the Met, we’re determined to restore that trust. “The victim showed great courage in coming forward despite being told she wouldn’t be taken seriously. This case sends a clear message: we take such offences seriously, no matter who the perpetrator is. “Anyone who feels they are a victim of domestic abuse should have the confidence to come forward. We will do everything in our power to help and support them.”

Next Steps for Rodrigues-Leite

With the criminal trial concluded, misconduct proceedings against PC Rodrigues-Leite will now begin, putting his police career under fresh scrutiny.
