Blaze Breaks Out at Gosport Factory – Firefighters Battle Roof Fire
Fire crews rushed to a blaze at the Hutamaki factory near Brune Park School in Gosport last night. A fire service cordon sealed off the main entrance as crews tackled flames on the roof of the industrial unit on Rowner Road.
Roof Fan Sparks Inferno
It’s believed a ventilation fan on the factory roof ignited, sparking the fire. Three fire crews from Gosport and Fareham scrambled onto the roof, backed by an aerial ladder from St Mary’s for extra muscle. They fought the flames using two hose reels, two jets, and breathing apparatus.
Staff Evacuated as Fire Rages
Workers were quickly evacuated for safety. Staff from nearby Paper Mountain anxiously waited outside, initially thinking a bin had been set on fire. The fire service quickly confirmed the source was the ventilation fan inside the twin-storey plastic manufacturing factory.
Firefighters Work Through the Night
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Firefighters from Gosport and Fareham were called just after 9pm to a fire involving a commercial premise. The fire involved an electric roof fan on an industrial plastic manufacturing unit. Two jets, two breathing apparatus and two 135ft ladders were deployed, alongside the Aerial Ladder Platform from St Mary’s. Crews left the scene just after midnight.”
The factory remains cordoned off as investigations continue into the fire’s cause and any damage sustained.
