Met Police Detective Constable Caught in Shocking Child Sex Offence Scandal
Mark Collins Pleads Guilty to Attempted Child Sex Crimes
Detective Constable Mark Collins, 57, from the Met’s South Area Command Unit, faced Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 27 January. He admitted trying to lure a girl aged 13–15 into sexual activity involving penetration on or before 24 November 2019.
Collins also pleaded guilty to six counts of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child. These offences took place between 4 November and 26 November 2019.
Officer Was On Duty During Some Alleged Crimes
A disturbing twist: Collins was on duty during some of the incidents. The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards is now fully involved, and misconduct proceedings are underway. The detective is currently suspended.
Sentencing Date Yet to Be Set
Collins will face sentencing at the Central Criminal Court soon, though the exact date is still to be confirmed. The case highlights ongoing concerns about safeguarding within the police force.
