Met Police Officer PC Sam Grigg Pleads Guilty to Assault and False Imprisonment
PC Sam Grigg, attached to the South West Basic Command Unit, shocked the force when he appeared in custody at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday, 5 January. The off-duty officer pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and assault after an incident on Friday, 2 December.
The Incident
The offence took place at a house where Grigg and the victim, a woman in her 20s known to him, were both present. The woman sustained minor injuries but did not need hospital treatment. The incident was reported on Tuesday, 6 December, and Grigg was promptly charged two days later on Thursday, 8 December.
Met Police Condemn Grigg’s Actions
“PC Grigg’s behaviour was totally unacceptable and I know it will cause concern among members of the public. He’s let down the Met and his colleagues who are committed to keeping the people of London safe,” said Commander Jon Savell, head of the Met’s professional standards team.
“We took immediate action to suspend PC Grigg from duty when his offending came to light and we will now look to commence misconduct proceedings at the earliest opportunity.
“We are determined to have a Met that the public can trust, with officers that people feel comfortable to approach. When someone fails to meet these standards, we will take action to remove them from our organisation.”
Next Steps
PC Grigg was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing, scheduled for Friday, 10 January at the same court. The Met Police have made it clear they won’t tolerate breaches of trust from their officers.
