A Portsmouth police officer caught hitting on a vulnerable domestic abuse victim is STILL on the force – despite a misconduct panel slamming his behaviour as a “disproportionate abuse of power”. The male officer, who can’t be named for legal reasons, bombarded the woman with texts and calls, tried to kiss her, and invited her out for cocktails while she was still his case.

Shocking Abuse of Trust by Portsmouth Officer

The panel at Hampshire police HQ found the officer guilty of five charges today. He sent the woman a staggering 60 messages, including 12 while on duty, peppered with kisses and winking emojis. The victim was assigned to him after suffering domestic abuse – a situation he exploited to pursue a “sexual or improper emotional relationship,” said the panel.

Victim Speaks Out: “I Don’t Trust Police Anymore”

In a police-recorded video played during the hearing, the woman said, “I don’t trust police officers anymore.” She revealed how she is scared to call the police, especially around male officers, after the betrayal.

Panel chair Sarah Gaunt condemned the officer’s actions: “Officer A not only failed to maintain an appropriate boundary but did so to pursue a sexual or improper emotional relationship. He was unprofessional, over-friendly and inappropriate.”

Officer Ignored Warnings, Deleted Evidence

Despite a previous warning from a colleague not to use his personal phone, the officer called the woman 32 times outside working hours. He even deleted messages to try and hide the evidence. His defender admitted his behaviour was unacceptable but stressed he had an otherwise unblemished record.

Panel to Decide Fate Tomorrow

Victoria von Wachter, prosecuting, blasted the officer’s actions, saying he showed “blatant disregard” for policing standards. The panel’s decision on whether he’ll get a final written warning or be sacked will be announced tomorrow – but for now, this twisted case of cops and cocktails shows the disturbing abuse of power in Portsmouth’s ranks.
