Gun-Toting Maroof Jailed for Over Six Years in Sheffield
Junaid Maroof, 26, from Edgedale Road, was slammed with a six-year-and-three-month prison sentence at Sheffield Crown Court last Friday (19 March). The charge? Possession of an illegal firearm.
Panicked Dash Caught on Camera
It all went down on Wednesday, 5 August 2020 at around 8:45pm. Armed Response Officers spotted Maroof stepping out of a car on Lumley Street. The moment he clocked the cops, he bolted in a panicked sprint toward nearby bushes, covering about 20 metres.
Officers saw Maroof hiding something handgun-shaped. A quick search revealed a black-handled pistol and six live rounds stashed in the greenery. Maroof was arrested on the spot and taken to Shepcote Custody.
Police Crackdown on Sheffield’s Gun Crime
“We are committed and continuing to work hard to disrupt the organised criminality across Sheffield,” said Superintendent Ian Profitt of the Armed Crime Unit. “Maroof’s sentence is a direct result of the coordinated efforts linking shootings across the city. We want those involved in crime to know police, prosecutors, and courts are handing out tough sentences. “His arrest came from proactive armed patrols. We’re here to protect the public and smash those bringing violence to our streets. “The public’s help remains vital. Please keep sharing information via 101 or anonymously at Crimestoppers.”
Additional Sentences for Past Violence
Maroof’s jail time also includes charges of affray dating back to 2018. Co-defendants Qamar Nain and Sarfraz Razaq each received 14-month sentences for their roles.
