Kent Fire and Rescue Service raced to New Road, Rochester, after reports of a fire in a three-storey building at 6.18pm on Monday evening.

Crews arrived to a thick plume of black smoke billowing from an external flat roof on the ground floor. Quick on the scene, firefighters unleashed a powerful hose reel to tackle the blaze head-on.

Firefighters worked efficiently, spending about 20 minutes damping down the fiery threat. By just before 7pm, the flames were under control, and crews left the property safe and secure.
