Coventry Man Avoids Jail Despite Horrific Child Abuse Image Haul

Derek Gordon McInnes, 57, from Coventry, pled guilty to possessing a massive collection of indecent images of children and extreme pornography, including animal abuse. Yet, shockingly, he escaped prison with a suspended sentence.

Horrifying Discovery at McInnes’s Home

On 16 December, police raided McInnes’s home in Luccombe Road after tracing illegal downloads to his IP address. Officers seized multiple devices, including a tablet, desktop, and laptop. When examined, these devices contained a staggering 62,951 indecent images of children.

  • 5,586 Category A images (most serious)
  • 6,256 Category B images
  • 51,080 Category C images
  • 26 prohibited cartoon images of child abuse
  • 3 images of extreme bestiality pornography

The images showed babies, toddlers, and preteens, painting a grim picture of McInnes’s disturbing collection.

Light Sentence Sparks Outrage

Despite the scale and severity of the offences, Southampton Crown Court handed McInnes a 20-month jail term – suspended for two years. He must also:

  • Sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years
  • Comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years
  • Complete 200 hours of community service
  • Surrender all computers and mobile devices
  • Pay £425 in court costs

Police Vow to Protect Children

PC Ollie Green, leading the investigation, said:

“McInnes possessed an extremely large collection of indecent images, including acts of bestiality and extreme pornography. He clearly poses a risk to children and will be monitored closely for the next decade.”

He added: “While this didn’t result in immediate jail time, we remain committed to protecting children across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and making sure offenders face justice.”
