Stalker Terrorises Woman to Hiding in Bathroom—Now Locked Up for Two Years

Three Chilling Visits End in Jail

Maris Subbotins, 44, turned a woman’s life into a nightmare near Sevenoaks. Over three separate occasions in April 2020, he stalked and broke into her home, forcing her to hide in the bathroom in sheer terror.

On April 25, after she refused to let him in, Subbotins entered the property uninvited. The victim heard floorboards creak as he roamed her house. Fearful for her safety, she locked herself away and called kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police.

Loitering, Banging & Threatening Gestures

  • The stalking saga began with Subbotins twice spotted lurking in her garden.
  • On April 22, he was caught watching her through a window and gesturing for her to let him inside.
  • He then banged loudly on the front door, speaking in unknown language, leaving the victim confused and scared.
  • By April 25, he returned again at 9am. The woman spotted him sneaking out from bushes and approaching with hands raised.

Police Step In as Stalker Gets Busted

Kent Police rushed to the scene but initially found no trace. Subbotins struck a third time that afternoon, this time breaking in. The victim’s front door was damaged and her phone removed from its receiver, though no items were stolen.

Officers found Subbotins moments later at a nearby bus stop. He was promptly arrested.

Justice Served at Maidstone Crown Court

Subbotins, with no fixed address, pleaded guilty to stalking. On September 1, 2020, he was sentenced to two years behind bars.

Detective Constable Shelley Rainer said: “This was an utterly terrifying ordeal for the victim. Thankfully, she gave a good description which helped us catch him quickly. We understand the long-term effects on victims and will never stop bringing offenders to justice.”
