Knife-Wielding Man Busted After Chaos at Ashford Hospital

Jonathon Newman, 23, from Canterbury, was hauled in by Kent Police on Wednesday afternoon following a nasty incident at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford. Officers were called at 2.30pm after reports of threatening and abusive behaviour.

Lock Knife Found on Suspect

During a search, police discovered a lock knife in Newman’s clothing. The situation escalated further once he was in custody.

Spits and Vandalism Add to Charges

Newman allegedly hurled his face mask at an officer and spat at two others. To top it off, he is accused of smashing a fire alarm during the fracas.

Multiple Charges Filed, Man Remanded in Custody

  • Public order offence
  • Possession of a knife
  • Criminal damage
  • Three counts of assaulting emergency workers

He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Friday 19 March and was remanded in custody. Newman is due back in court on Thursday 25 March.
