Fraudster Caught After Targeting Pensioners in Sevenoaks

A suspected conman is set to face court over a brazen scam that targeted pensioners in Sevenoaks.

Drain Repair Scam Leaves Victims Out of Pocket

On 15 January 2020, a resident in Riverhead was duped when a man knocked on their door claiming their drains needed urgent fixing. The victim handed over their bank card, but the suspect walked off with it – never to return.

Shortly after, cash was withdrawn from the victim’s bank account without permission.

On the very same day, another resident near St Johns Hill was handed a cheque by a man who demanded payment for alleged drain repairs. The work never started, and the cheque was later used to siphon money from the victim’s bank account.

Perp Arrested and Charged

Police arrested 40-year-old Ian Baggs, a man with no fixed address, in Redhill, Surrey on 22 April. He faces two counts of fraud linked to the Sevenoaks scams.

Baggs was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday 24 April.
