Suspected Moped Thief Nabbed After Canterbury Campus Heist

A 19-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with a moped theft at the University of Kent.

Arrest Made After Stolen Bike Taken From Campus

The culprit was caught at 5.30pm on Wednesday, April 15, nearly six weeks after the bike vanished on March 3. Police detained him on suspicion of motor vehicle theft before releasing him on bail until May 8.

Police Issue Warning to Moped Owners

Following the arrest, Sergeant Colette Todd from Canterbury’s Community Safety Unit issued a sharp reminder to moped riders:

“Keep your bikes locked, chained, and covered,” she said. “Consider alarms to alert you if anyone tampers with your vehicle.”

“Park in well-lit, CCTV-monitored spots, and mark your bike’s parts to boost recovery chances if stolen.”

Owners are urged to beef up security as moped thefts rise across the region.
