Man Stabs Victim Multiple Times After Road Rage Clash
On September 7, 2023, at around 3.30pm, tempers flared during a road rage incident. The driver of a vehicle gave Barnes a sharp glare, sparking an aggressive reaction from Barnes. Without hesitation, Barnes lunged at the vehicle, stabbing the victim four times across the chest, back, and shoulders.
Victim Fights Back and Detains Attacker
Bleeding and in shock, the victim managed to drive straight to a petrol station on Carlton Road, Carlton. There, they detained Barnes and his accomplices until police arrived.
Police Crack Down Amid Met’s Weapon Removal Drive
Detectives launched an intense investigation. During questioning, all four suspects admitted to involvement in the violent disorder but denied intentionally stabbing anyone. However, police gathered solid evidence, including CCTV footage and expert analysis. The wounds required significant force, consistent with a Stanley knife attack.
Barnes Found Guilty and Sentenced to Over 12 Years
In Nottingham Crown Court on May 28, 2024, Judge Stuart Rafferty KC labelled Barnes a “dangerous offender.” He was handed a lengthy 12 years and nine months sentence. Barnes must serve at least two-thirds in prison and face an additional five years on extended licence upon release.
- Co-defendants Burton and Pearson each received two years and three months imprisonment.
- Reid was sentenced to one year and eight months.
