Peckham Predator Tamoy Bailey Jailed for Rape and False Imprisonment
Tamoy Bailey, 18, from Hastings Close, Peckham, was sentenced on Monday, 9 November at Inner London Crown Court. The teenager was found guilty of raping and falsely imprisoning an 18-year-old woman in a sickening attack in March 2019.
Horrific Attack Behind Closed Doors
Bailey, just 16 at the time, met the victim earlier that day before luring her to a Peckham address. Once inside, he locked her in the bathroom and subjected her to verbal abuse. Then he threatened her with a knife, warning he would stab her if she refused to have sex.
Ignoring the victim’s desperate pleas to stop, Bailey callously replied, “Do I look as if I care?” before raping her. After the ordeal, the woman escaped and immediately called the police.
Judge Slams Bailey as ‘Danger to Public’
Bailey was arrested on 2 April and charged with rape and false imprisonment. Judge Donne sentenced him to five years behind bars, plus a two-year parole extension, citing the significant risk Bailey poses to the public. He also handed a concurrent three-year sentence for false imprisonment.
“The victim pleaded with you to stop, and you replied, ‘Do I look as if I care?’ This showed your appalling attitude,” Judge Donne stated. “You did not care about her, only about forcing sex on her.”
Police Praise Victim’s Strength
Detective Constable Jake Good, of the Met’s Central South safeguarding team, blasted Bailey as a “violent sexual offender” who thought he could “get away” with his crime.
“I hope this sentence brings the victim some comfort,” DC Good said. “Her dignity and courage, despite the trauma and court stress, deserve respect.”
