Cambridge Knife Thug Gets Over Seven Years for Brutal Home Siege
In the early hours of 14 September last year, Zakaraya Juayl, 18, went on a terrifying rampage in Kingfisher Way, Cambridge. Wearing a black hoody and face mask, Juayl shouted outside his ‘friend’s’ home, brandishing a large knife.
The girl’s mother looked out but ignored his calls. Moments later, Juayl smashed through the kitchen window and chased a trio inside – including a 12-year-old boy. They scrambled to lock themselves in a bedroom for safety.
Knife-Wielding Menace Stabs Door, Slashes Coats
Juayl repeatedly stabbed the bedroom door and slashed coats hanging nearby. After the attack, he fled on an electric scooter once police were called.
The next morning police tracked Juayl to his home on Chesterton Road. He was found sitting inside a youth worker’s car, about to leave for sixth form college. He tried to escape but was arrested, caught with a large combat knife.
Juayl Gets Seven Years Behind Bars + Restraining Order
The court heard Juayl pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary, criminal damage, and two counts of possessing a knife.
At Leeds Crown Court on 30 April, Juayl was sentenced to seven years and two months in prison, with an extra three years on licence. He was also slapped with a five-year restraining order banning him from contacting the victims or entering Cambridge city.
Detective Constable Matt Smith said: “Juayl is a violent individual with previous convictions for weapons offences. This was a heinous and senseless attack on a family that had originally befriended him.”
“This kind of lawlessness will not be tolerated and the sentence reflects the seriousness and terror Juayl caused to the family.”
