Man Jailed for Throwing Ashtray, Smashing Woman’s Face

Mark Forder, 55, has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison after viciously attacking a woman by hurling an ashtray at her face. The violent blast caused serious injuries, knocking out several of her teeth and leaving her with lasting scars.

Horrific Attack Inside Their Home

The shocking assault took place on June 10, 2021, inside the couple’s bedroom. Forder pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm without intent. He was also ordered to pay £500 compensation and will face a two-year restraining order upon release.

Victim Speaks Out: ‘I Feel Heartbroken and Afraid’

“I feel heartbroken, I feel shocked and afraid. From this, I am very scared of the man who said he loved me, said he would protect me from anyone and anything,” the victim said in a statement read out in court.

“This has caused me an awful lot of pain physically from the cuts but also emotionally due to having the scars which will remind me of this incident for the rest of my life. This has made me feel completely ugly and afraid for the future and not being able to trust anyone again.”

Police Crack Down on Domestic Violence

Investigating officer Sian McLean of Bedfordshire Police’s Emerald team said: “I am pleased that Forder received a custodial sentence and will be the subject of a restraining order after the amount of distress and fear he caused the victim with his violent actions.

“Violence of any kind is completely unacceptable, and if someone is making you feel unsafe in your own home, we can help.

“In Bedfordshire, we remain committed to tackling male violence against women and girls, with several initiatives and projects at the forefront of our work to create a safer environment across the county.

“Our experienced team of specialist officers is here to support victims of domestic violence and encourage them to speak out so we can provide help, investigate, and bring perpetrators to justice.”
