Burglar Busted After Two Break-Ins in Kent
Michael Cherry was arrested after a spree of burglaries rocked Horsmonden and Lamberhurst last weekend. Stolen goods included a bank card, passport, and tools, swiped from two properties near Furnace Lane and School Hill.
Man Charged with Multiple Crimes
On Monday, June 27, Cherry was charged with three counts of burglary, stalking, and possession of a suspicious item. The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to most charges but denied one burglary count during his appearance at Medway Magistrates’ Court on June 28.
He was remanded in custody ahead of his next hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on July 26.
Police Urge Residents to ‘Lift and Lock’ This Summer
With summer holidays just around the corner, police warn that empty homes are prime targets for thieves. Officers remind everyone to follow simple steps to keep homes safe:
- Always lock UPVC doors by lifting the handle and turning the key – don’t rely on just the handle.
- Lock all windows and install a burglar alarm for extra security.
- Keep keys, cash, and valuables out of sight.
- Use timer switches on lights and radios to make it look like someone’s home.
- Secure tools and garden equipment that could be stolen or used to break in.
- Mark bikes, phones, and laptops with security tags.
- Keep receipts and serial numbers for expensive items handy for police reports.
Stay sharp and protect your home this summer – don’t make it easy for thieves like Cherry.
