Bournemouth Burglar Caught After DNA Evidence Links Him to Two Raids

John Jones, 54, from Bournemouth, has been locked up for two years and eight months after pleading guilty to two burglaries. The sentencing took place on January 25, 2023, at Bournemouth Crown Court.

First Break-In Costs Victim £350 in Damage

The first burglary happened on October 8, 2022, between 9.15 a.m. and 3.15 p.m. in Iddesleigh Road. Jones made off with a DKNY watch and caused around £350 in damage to the property.

Police recovered DNA evidence at the scene, which matched Jones and helped crack the case wide open.

Second Raid Nets £5,000 in Jewellery

Just a week later, on October 15, Jones struck again in Knole Gardens. He stole a jewellery box and its contents valued at approximately £5,000.

A rogue sock found at the scene didn’t belong to the residents, and forensic tests revealed Jones’ DNA inside, sealing his fate.

Police Praise Investigation, Warn Burglars

The impact of a burglary on a victim is extremely distressing and can be long-lasting,” said Dorset Police Detective Constable Ian Caddy.

“We remain committed to relentlessly pursuing those who commit such burglaries and will do everything in our power to identify those responsible.”

“We hope that our investigation to bring Jones to justice will serve as a deterrent to others considering committing a similar crime.”

Jones was arrested in November 2022 and will now serve his sentence, sending a clear message to would-be burglars in Dorset.
