Brutal Abuser Jailed After Savage Crowbar Attack

A vicious domestic abuser who shattered his partner’s nose and caused a brain bleed with a crowbar has been locked up for three and a half years.

Two Weeks of Relentless Terror

Alan McMahon, 40, unleashed a terrifying two-week spree of violence in Birmingham. He repeatedly battered the woman with a crowbar, hurled glass bottles at her, and controlled every aspect of her life — from who she could see to how she spent her money.

One horrifying night last October, McMahon attacked with the crowbar, breaking her nose, giving her two black eyes, and triggering a brain bleed. Terrified, the woman hid the weapon, fearing another strike.

Knife Attack Triggers Dramatic Escape

When McMahon couldn’t find the crowbar, he turned savage with a knife. He repeatedly stabbed her in the leg and hand, leaving deep puncture wounds. Spotting a chance, the victim ran for help, flagging down a passing police car.

Justice Served — and a Lifetime Restraining Order

McMahon was arrested, charged with grievous bodily harm, and found guilty by a jury at Birmingham Crown Court. Alongside his prison sentence, he’s been slapped with a lifetime restraining order.

“McMahon was controlling and possessive and thought he could dictate how this woman lived her life,” said Detective Constable Gareth Glass. “We have supported the woman throughout this difficult process, kept her safe, and put her in touch with charities who can help her start to rebuild her life.”
