Predator Ralph Spicer Jailed for Raping Teen in Folkestone
Victim Speaks Out After Decades
Ralph Spicer, 55, has been locked up for 11 years for raping and indecently assaulting a teenage girl he befriended in Folkestone during the 1990s. The victim came forward to Kent Police in 2017, finally breaking her silence years after the horrific abuse.
Damning Evidence Leads to Conviction
Spicer was charged in November 2019 following a detailed investigation. At Canterbury Crown Court, he was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of indecent assault. The court heard how he manipulated the then-under-15 victim by convincing her he loved her, before abusing her at his home and in his car.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage
Investigating officer PC Kelly Merrington applauded the victim’s bravery. She said:
“Spicer abused this victim physically and psychologically when she was still a child, causing long-term harm. Despite being confronted, he denied the offences, forcing her to relive the trauma during the trial. I hope this sentence brings her some justice.” “I urge anyone suffering sexual abuse to report it immediately so we can protect victims and bring offenders to justice.”
Justice Served, But Warning Remains
Spicer’s conviction sends a clear message that predators will be hunted down no matter how long ago their crimes happened. If you or someone you know is a victim of sexual abuse, don’t stay silent – speak to the authorities now.
