Dangerous Driver Jailed for Fatal Hit-and-Run on Schoolgirl Mia Strothers
Kevin Pryce, caught speeding in an uninsured, dodgy car, has been sentenced at Manchester Crown Court for the tragic death of 14-year-old Mia Strothers. The schoolgirl was struck while crossing Lightbowne Road in October 2020 and later died from her injuries.
High Speed, Faulty Brakes and a Deadly Hit
The court heard Pryce was tearing along at up to 57mph in a 30mph zone in his silver BMW 318. Experts described the vehicle as “unroadworthy and dangerous” with six serious faults, including defective brakes. Despite a smashed windscreen after hitting Mia, Pryce didn’t stop. Instead, he drove off to a friend’s nearby, lying that his car had been hit by a brick.
Arrest and Guilty Plea Deliver Justice
Police found Pryce hours later. He tested positive for illegal substances and admitted in custody he knew about the brake problems but claimed he was rushing to the garage to fix them—an excuse later disproved.
Pryce pled guilty to five offences:
- Causing death by dangerous driving
- Causing death while uninsured
- Failing to stop after the collision
- Failing to report the incident
- Driving without a proper license
His reckless actions ended a young life and shattered a community. Pryce now faces the consequences he deserves.
