Teen Killer Marvin Dyer Jailed for Life Over Brutal Stratford Stabbing
Marvin Dyer, 16, has been locked up for life at the Old Bailey after stabbing 15-year-old Baptista Adjei to death in a chilling 9-second attack. He must serve at least 16 years before applying for parole.
Deadly Online Row Turns Fatal
Just weeks before the murder, Baptista and his friend had a Snapchat spat with Dyer and another 16-year-old boy. What started as banter quickly spiraled into threats. Dyer taunted Baptista: “If you’ve got no bodies on your blade, leave the group chat.” Baptista shot back, “Shut up. You’ll be the first.”
The online feud ended with Dyer promising to wait outside Baptista’s school the next day — but he wasn’t there then. On 10 October 2019, the fatal day, Baptista and his friend boarded a bus toward Stratford, unaware Dyer was lurking.
Knife Attack Captured on CCTV
Police footage shows Dyer, then 15, calmly boarding the bus at Stratford Broadway. Wearing a balaclava and latex glove, he struck without warning, stabbing Baptista twice in the chest and the friend in the arm and leg.
Baptista managed to run to Stratford Centre but collapsed and died at the scene, while his friend survived after a week in hospital.
Justice Delivered but Grief Remains
After the attack, Dyer confessed and was charged with murder, grievous bodily harm, and possession of a weapon. Detective Sgt Suzanne Soren condemned the “extreme violence” sparked by mere name-calling.
“The sentence won’t bring Baptista back. His loved ones will carry this pain every day,” she said. “My thoughts are with all touched by this needless tragedy — a stark warning that nothing is worth the price paid for murder.”
Baptista’s mum heartbreakingly said: “We can never get over Baptista’s death. He had dreams of finishing school, going to university, and having a family. All stolen from us in such a cruel way.”
