Brutal Derry Stabbing Claims Young Man’s Life
Karol Kelly, 35, was fatally stabbed in Derry/Londonderry in the early hours of Sunday, March 4, 2018. The attack happened after a tense altercation on Grafton Street. Kelly had gone to confront the Anderson brothers at their home, Detective Inspector Michelle Griffin revealed.
Knives Drawn in Deadly Pursuit
Kelly left the Andersons’ house accompanied by another man but was chased down and viciously attacked. The attackers, Sean Anderson, 24, and Gary Anderson, 25, armed themselves with kitchen knives. Kelly suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest and abdomen and died at the scene.
Justice Served, But Heartache Lingers
Sean Anderson was handed a 17-year prison sentence, while Gary Anderson received 15 years behind bars. Detective Inspector Griffin described the attack as “brutal” — a senseless act that robbed a family of their loved one and left five children without a father.
“It’s been more than five years since this tragic event, and the family remain heartbroken and bereft,” Griffin said. “They have had to relive every detail of this cruel attack again and again. My thoughts are with them today.”
“I hope today’s outcome helps them begin their grieving. It also sends a clear message: offenders will be brought to justice. No one should take the law into their own hands.”
