Two Men Busted in Norfolk Mail and Credit Card Fraud Sting
Operation Moonshot Nets Fraudsters in Great Yarmouth
Norfolk Police’s Operation Moonshot team made a major breakthrough on March 15, 2022, when they stopped a Saab on Hall Quay, Great Yarmouth. Inside were unopened letters stolen from Hemsby and Martham homes, along with credit cards bearing different names. The two men inside were quickly arrested.
Fraud Conspiracy Spanned the UK
The suspects, Selvis Sali, 48, and Elvis Mustafa, 39—both homeless—were charged with conspiracy to commit fraud. Police investigations revealed their crime spree stretched across the UK, targeting multiple addresses. Both pleaded guilty on May 11.
Sentenced and Facing Deportation
On June 17, at Norwich Crown Court, Sali was jailed for 21 months, Mustafa for 18 months. The judge recommended they be deported once their sentences are served.
Sgt Tungatt of Norfolk Police’s Operation Moonshot East said: “This case shows we will not tolerate invasive crime. Sali and Mustafa thought their carefully planned fraud would go undetected. But after a thorough investigation, we uncovered crucial evidence linking them to multiple crimes. Both pleaded guilty, securing justice for the victims.”
