Batley Man Jailed for Nearly 19 Years Over Child Sex Assaults
A 50-year-old man from Batley was slammed with an 18-year, eight-month prison sentence after admitting to two horrific sexual assaults on a young girl. David Gray will serve his time after Leeds Crown Court sentenced him for offences spanning from 2020 to 2023.
Investigation Led by Persistent Police Work
The disturbing case kicked off in January 2024 and ended with Gray’s guilty plea during a June hearing. He remained in custody awaiting sentencing.
Detective Constable Natalie Green from the Kirklees District Child Safeguarding Unit headed the probe. DC Green didn’t mince words about the severity of Gray’s crimes.
“Gray poses a significant danger to young children. We welcome the strong sentence handed down by the court,” she said. “The appalling offences have deeply scarred the young victim and her family, showing the devastating impact of such crimes.”
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery and Urge Others to Speak Out
DC Green also saluted the victim and her family for their courage throughout the ordeal.
“I want to personally thank them for their strength in coming forward and speaking out. We urge all victims of sexual assault, no matter when it happened, to step forward. Every report is thoroughly investigated by our specially trained officers, who offer full support,” said Green.
Kirklees Police Commit to Protecting Vulnerable Victims
The Child Safeguarding Unit remains fiercely dedicated to shielding vulnerable children and delivering justice. This case highlights the critical need to report sexual offences early to prevent further harm.
Anyone affected by such crimes is urged to contact local authorities for help and support.
