The Isle of Wight’s Wightlink Warriors kept their perfect home record intact with a gritty 50-40 victory over the Coventry Bees. Twelve different race winners showed just how broad the Warriors’ strength was on the night.
Injury Woes Fail to Stop Warrior Spirit
Despite skipper Ben Hopwood nursing a painful knuckle injury, he was determined to race. A last-minute setback came when Adam Portwood pulled out the morning of the match, handing reserve Jamie Sealey a surprise chance to shine. Sealey’s high-speed tumble in heat two was a blow, forcing him out on medical advice, but Shaun Tedham stepped up brilliantly to cover his loss.
Team Effort Sees Warriors Dominate
The opening five races were neck and neck, but after that, the Warriors turned the screw. Ben Morley was flawless, bagging a perfect maximum score. Danno Verge fought tooth and nail for every point, while Chris Widman had his best outing of the season. Scott Campos and Ben Hopwood were spectacular and reliable when it mattered most. Shaun Tedham’s steady performance at reserve kept the team ticking over.
