Teen Charged After Man Shot in Leg with BB Gun in Whitstable
Man injured at Westmeads Recreation Ground
A 22-year-old man was shot in the leg with what was first reported as a BB gun at Westmeads Recreation Ground, Whitstable, on Sunday, 7 July 2019 at around 1:50pm. The victim knew the shooter.
He was rushed to a local hospital for surgery, where medics discovered the injury was actually caused by a bullet, not a BB pellet. Police are now investigating the exact type of weapon used.
Two arrested as teen faces serious charges
On Monday, 15 July, a 54-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were detained. Later that evening, police carried out a search at a property in Yorkletts. The next day, officers also searched a home in Walmer Road, Whitstable.
The Whitstable teen has been charged with conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm with intent. He is set to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 17 July 2019. The 54-year-old man has been released on bail until 7 August 2019.
Police urge witnesses to come forward
The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are appealing for anyone who saw the shooting or knows more about the incident to get in touch.
