Man Jailed After Teen Raped in Brighton

A 38-year-old man has been locked up after a 17-year-old boy reported being raped at a home in Regent Hill, Brighton.

Attack Follows Innocent Request for Help

Sussex Police revealed the horrifying ordeal happened around 5am on Sunday, 10 August. The teen was sitting on a bench on Dyke Road near the North Street junction when a man approached, asking for help to find an open shop. The boy obliged – but was then taken to a property in Regent Hill where the attack took place.

Rapid Police Action Leads to Arrest

  • Officers quickly launched a full investigation.
  • Rafael Nascimento, 38, originally from Brazil and with no fixed address, was arrested close to the scene.
  • He was charged with rape in the early hours of Tuesday, 12 August.
  • He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court the same day and has been remanded in custody.
  • Nascimento is due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 9 September.

Police Promise Full Support and Increased Presence

“A dedicated team has been working diligently, swiftly, and thoroughly to ensure all lines of enquiry are fully progressed,” said Detective Chief Inspector Steve Cobbett.

“The victim will continue to be supported throughout this process, and following their bravery in making a report, officers quickly identified a person of interest, who has been charged and remanded.

“We have increased patrols in the Regent Hill area to reassure the community. We remain committed to protecting the public from those who seek to harm others. We are here to listen, support, and take action.”

Witnesses Urged to Come Forward

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Dyke Road/North Street area between 4.30am and 5.30am on 10 August to come forward. They are especially keen to see any footage that could help the investigation.
