Bromley Landlady Threatened with Horrific Attack After Cannabis Farm Discovered in Her Home
A Bromley landlady faced chilling threats, including having her face “cut off,” after police uncovered a large cannabis factory inside her home.
Police Respond to Disturbance and Uncover Cannabis Farm
On August 11, 2022, officers rushed to Capstone Road, Bromley, following reports of a male tenant threatening a woman late at night. When police arrived, the distressed landlady said the man had left. But further investigation revealed otherwise.
Officers heard noises from upstairs and found 52-year-old George Joseph Williams-Thomas surrounded by 29 cannabis plants. The operation was highly sophisticated, boasting specialist lighting, hydroponic systems, and extraction fans.
Tenant’s Lies Unravel in Court
Williams-Thomas claimed he was merely paid £50 by someone he met in a pub to water the plants. But court records unveiled a dark past: 21 convictions for 68 offences.
He later pleaded guilty to being involved in cannabis production at Woolwich Crown Court. Despite his claims of innocence, Judge David Miller made it clear the landlady had been terrified and unwillingly dragged into the ordeal.
Judge Suspends Prison Sentence but Issues Tough Conditions
Williams-Thomas was handed a 17-month custodial sentence — suspended for 18 months. The order also included 100 hours of unpaid work and a strict nightly curfew.
His barrister stressed financial troubles and his role as a devoted father to a young son. Judge Miller acknowledged this but warned, “It is only for that reason, you otherwise richly deserve to go to prison.”
The Wider Dangers of Illegal Cannabis Cultivation
This case throws into sharp relief the dangers and distress illegal cannabis operations bring to innocent victims. It highlights the complex challenges law enforcement faces tackling these underground factories that threaten communities across the UK.
