Bungling Burglar Nabbed After Tattoo Clue Leads Police to £10k Theft Suspect
Tattooed Thief Caught on CCTV in Chichester Raid
A bungling burglar was caught red-handed, thanks to his distinctive hand tattoos. Early on the morning of Saturday, 12 October, staff at Dartagnan in North Street discovered their store had been broken into overnight. The thief made off with £10,000 worth of designer clothing.
Hook, Line, and Sinker – Amateur Burglar’s Failed Getaway
Police reviewed CCTV footage showing the culprit’s arm reaching through a smashed first-floor window. He used a hook on a stick to snag clothes from the rail inside and drag them toward the window. Although no full body shots appeared on camera, detectives spotted unique hand tattoos on the suspect.
The bungler also dropped his wooden hook stick at the scene. Crime investigators seized it, and forensic analysis revealed a DNA match to Christopher Redmond.
DNA and Tattoos Seal Fate of 29-Year-Old
The 29-year-old from Upper Bognor Road, Bognor, was arrested and charged with burglary. His tattooed hands matched those in the CCTV, sealing his identity. At Lewes Crown Court on 19 January, Redmond was handed a two-year jail sentence and ordered to pay a £149 victim surcharge.
