Baseball Bat Beast Jailed for Brutal Assault in Canterbury
A violent thug who battered a woman with a baseball bat has been locked up for over three years. Matthew Pithers, 36, was arrested on Saturday, 7 September 2019, after viciously assaulting the woman and threatening to kill her.
Three Years Behind Bars for Bat and Sword Attack
Pithers landed a punch and smashed the victim’s legs with a baseball bat on Friday, 23 August 2019. But the terror didn’t stop there. On 14 September, he brandished a samurai sword, threatening to kill her and bury her in a garden. He also threatened to set her house on fire.
Despite initially denying the assaults, Pithers later admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault, and making threats to kill at Canterbury Crown Court. On 25 January 2020, he was sentenced to three years and one month behind bars.
Police Urge Victims to Speak Out
“I would like to praise the victim in this case for coming forward and supporting our case,”
said Detective Constable Harriet Slegg, Kent Police’s lead investigator.
“I urge anyone assaulted or threatened by someone they know to report it to police so we can investigate and protect victims.”
