Luxury Car Thief Jailed Despite Ankle Tag Tracking

A career criminal from Sidcup has been locked up for nearly five years after a spree targeting high-end vehicles across Bexley, Bromley, and Greenwich. Thomas Siggers, 30, used smart keyless tech to nick at least eight luxury cars from October to January — all while wearing an ankle tag tracking his every move.

Victims Devastated as Priceless Cars Stolen

The haul included Land Rovers, Range Rovers, and Lexuses worth over £20,000 each. One Bexley woman said she felt “emotionally violated” when her £40,000 Land Rover was swiped right from her driveway. It was found six days later battered, and heartbreakingly, her 93-year-old mother’s wheelchair had vanished too.

Linked to Shooting and Machete Threats

Siggers’ crimes weren’t just about cars. A vehicle stolen by him was used in a Woolwich shooting. Though charged with attempted murder alongside three others, he was cleared, claiming he didn’t know about the gun and thought they were only there to steal.

In a nasty incident in January, an off-duty police officer was boxed in by a black Land Rover, then threatened by two men wielding machetes. The officer flashed his warrant card and the attackers fled. Siggers was connected to the case, though not the machete-men themselves.

Judge Slams Sophisticated Theft Operation

Despite 53 prior convictions mostly for theft and burglary, Siggers’ lawyer argued he wanted to go straight after the birth of his son and had even saved a suicidal inmate’s life in jail. His family, including his partner, stood by him.

But Judge Christopher Grout was unimpressed, calling the crimes “planned and sophisticated.” Siggers led the gang, using jamming devices to disable security cameras—even tampering with a victim’s Ring doorbell to cover his tracks.

“It is very difficult to accept that you are truly remorseful for what you have done,” said Judge Grout during sentencing at Woolwich Crown Court.

Siggers pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal vehicles, vehicle interference, affray, and theft from motor vehicles. His GPS ankle tag confirmed his presence at all the crime scenes, including the machete incident.

Criminal Past and No Signs of Reform

Siggers’ notorious history includes burgling his own grandparents’ home in 2017 while they celebrated their wedding anniversary. He was jailed in 2020 for 11 burglaries, served three and a half years, was released, then straight back to crime.

The judge remarked, “No matter how the court deals with you, you continue to offend.” Siggers insists he wants a fresh start and plans to leave the area—time will tell if he sticks to it.
