Former Nursery Worker Jailed for Over 14 Years for Sex Attacks on Toddlers

Andrew Evans, 38, a former nursery worker in Crowborough, has been locked up for 14 years and four months after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two three-year-old children. The sickening abuse took place between September 2021 and January 2022 at a Church Road nursery.

Horror at Daycare: Young Victims Brave Enough to Speak Out

The nightmare began when the family of a three-year-old boy reported Evans, known as ‘Andy’ at the nursery, to police in March 2022. Just four months later, a three-year-old girl came forward with similar allegations against him.

Already Behind Bars for Similar Crimes

At the time the new charges emerged, Evans was already serving a hefty prison sentence of six years and eight months for unrelated sexual offences involving two other children. While in custody, he faced further charges including two counts of penetrating a girl under 13 and assault by penetration of a boy under 13.

Evans Admits Guilt, Sentenced at Hove Crown Court

Evans initially pleaded guilty to assault by touching in July at Crawley Magistrates’ Court. He later admitted multiple counts of sexual assault by penetration at Hove Crown Court in August. The judge handed down a combined sentence of 14 years and four months behind bars, plus an extended licence period of four years and eight months.

Police Praise Victims’ Bravery and Nursery Cooperation

Detective Constable Rebecca Wilde said: “Andrew Evans was trusted by his young victims, their families and the nursery. He betrayed that trust in the most appalling ways. The children have shown incredible courage in reporting the abuse, despite being so young they struggled to describe it. I thank them and their families for their support. The nursery fully cooperated with our investigation and has strengthened safeguarding measures. Evans will now spend significant time behind bars, unable to harm any more children or the public.”
