Speed Demons Targeted in East Kent Crackdown
Speeding drivers have been slammed with reports and uninsured vehicles seized during a tough new police blitz across east Kent. Dover’s Community Safety Unit (CSU) has vowed to tackle dangerous driving head-on.
Road Checks Hit Sandwich, Deal, Dover
Since early December, officers have carried out speed checks in Sandwich, Deal, and Dover following mounting local complaints. Hotspots include Archer’s Court Road in Whitfield, Sandwich Road in Woodnesborough, St Richard’s Road in Deal, Lewisham Road in River, and Canterbury Road in Lydden.
48 Drivers Busted, 5 Cars Impounded
So far, 48 motorists have been stopped—with 20 caught just last week. Officers reported drivers mainly for speeding, but also for driving without a licence or uninsured. Five vehicles have been seized on the spot.
One brazen driver was clocked tearing down Sandwich Road at 53mph—a massive 23mph over the 30mph limit.
Police Crackdown Driven by Community Concerns
“We are responding to concerns of dangerous driving in residential areas raised by the community,” said Sergeant Ian Belsey from Dover’s CSU.
“Our team is targeting those who put others at risk. These tough actions will help cut injuries and teach motorists the dangers of speeding.”
“Road safety is a key part of Kent Police’s Safer Winter campaign. We’ll keep up these operations to keep communities safe.”
Residents and businesses are urged to stay involved and report their concerns via the My Community Voice messaging service.
