Tragic birthday murder shock as Sam Rimmer, 22, fatally shot in Dingle street attack

Sam Rimmer was enjoying an evening with friends in Dingle when terror struck. At 11.40pm on Tuesday 16 August, two electric bike riders pulled into the cul-de-sac of Lavrock Bank and opened fire on the group. Sam was hit and later died in hospital despite frantic efforts by police and paramedics.

Four arrested but hunt continues for Sam’s killer

Police have arrested four suspects who are now on bail. Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath, urged anyone near Lavrock Bank at that time to come forward. “We have made arrests but enquiries are ongoing. If you were in the area around 11.40pm on 16 August, please share any information or footage,” he said.

Heartbreaking birthday tribute from devastated mum

“Today, Sam would have been celebrating his 23rd birthday – a day he loved because he shared it with me,” said Sam’s mum.

“Every year Sam would say ‘happy birthday Mumzy’ and that breaks my heart to know I’ll never hear those words again. He was funny, caring, loyal – the life and soul of every party with an infectious laugh.

“Sam was due to be a dad this month and was so excited to welcome his baby boy. It’s a small comfort, but baby Sam will sadly never hear his dad’s laugh or feel his arms around him.

“Our family is shattered beyond repair. If you knew Sam, you loved him. We will not rest until justice is served. Fly high, Sam.”
