Man Charged with Murder in Margate Death

Detectives have charged a man with murder following the death of a 47-year-old in Margate. Kent Police were called to a property on Dane Road at 7.10pm on Tuesday 28 July 2020. The victim was pronounced dead by the South East Coast Ambulance Service at the scene.

Murder Probe Launched

A post mortem on Friday 31 July confirmed suspicious circumstances. The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate opened a murder investigation and arrested a suspect.

Suspect Charged and Remanded

34-year-old Jonathan Cottrell from Athelstan Road, Margate was charged with murder on Sunday 2 August, authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service. Cottrell appeared at Medway Magistrates on Monday 3 August and was remanded in custody. He is due to stand trial at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday 5 August.
