Tragic Shooting Claims Young Life in Erith
Police were called to Pembroke Road, Erith, at around 8:50pm on Thursday, 9 February, following reports of shots fired. The victim, 24-year-old Kai McGinley from Southwark, was found with a gunshot wound. Despite emergency crews’ best efforts, Kai was pronounced dead at the scene.
Murder Inquiry Underway
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Wood is leading the investigation. He urged anyone with information to come forward, especially regarding a silver Land Rover Freelander (registration GL52 HDO) that suspects abandoned after the shooting.
“I believe another vehicle or vehicles, yet to be identified, were used to drive suspects away. At least one is likely to have front-end collision damage,” said DCI Wood.
If you’ve seen a damaged vehicle recently parked up, abandoned, or asked to repair one, police want to hear from you.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
DCI Wood added: “A young man’s life has been ended and a family is struggling to come to terms with their sudden and terrible loss. Our thoughts are with them today.”
No arrests have been made yet. Kai’s next of kin have been informed and they are receiving support from specialist officers. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
